IUEC Local 133 was established on June 24, 1957, and has been serving Austin and the surrounding areas ever since. Over the years, local has seen continued significant growth, initiating new members every month, and at the rate Austin is growing, it won’t be slowing down anytime soon.

To see the impact that Local 133’s members have had on the community, you simply need to take a look at the Austin skyline. When the COVID-19 pandemic brought about global change, our frontline essential IUEC members stayed the course and provided necessary construction, service, repair and modernization to the people of North America.

Notable Projects

Some of the notable projects that have been completed in the Austin area include the two largest condos west of the Mississippi—The Austonian and The Independent—and the home of the new Tesla factory. One of our mod crews worked at the University of Texas Tower giving its elevators a much-needed overhaul.

Local 133 members have played a pivotal role in helping construct the new Austin Football Club (soccer), and installed the elevators at the only Formula 1 racing track in America, Circuit of the Americas (COTA), as well as the largest indoor waterpark in the USA, Kalahari.

Since our humble beginnings in 1902…

We have grown to more than 360 members with over 190 retirees.

The Local’s jurisdiction has expanded out from its roots in Baltimore City to include 18 of Maryland’s 23 counties along with Sussex County Delaware and sharing Kent County Delaware with Local 5. If you follow the Mason-Dixon line from the Appalachian Mountains in western Maryland down to the Atlantic beaches of Rehoboth and Ocean City, you will find our members working and living.

From the steps of the state capital in Annapolis up to the top of the Chesapeake Bay, Local #Local 133 members continue to carry on our union elevator constructor heritage well into the 21st century.

The National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP)’s thorough curriculum ensures Local 133 members remain the most highly-trained and safest professionals in the industry. Through the apprenticeship program and continuing education (CE) options, NEIEP helps Local 133 drive standards in the industry.
